The Golfshire Times - June 2018

The month of May was all about the Prestige Masters Series 2018. After another hugely successful edition last year, the Opening Day, sponsored by JMC Projects and Nitco India, was nothing short of spectacular with golfers coming in to participate from across the country.

Over one hundred golfers teed off in windy pre-monsoon conditions and in the end it was Nathan Sundaram who was crowned the winner with 38 Stableford points. Close on his heels in second place was Joginder Sherawat with 37 Stableford points. Apart from their unique trophies the winners won a stay at the newly opened Sheraton Grand in Whitefield. Focus now shifts to the second qualifier sponsored by Aryan and Penna Cement which is scheduled for Saturday, 9th June.

IPL Super-stars on the Greens!

Top cricketers like Ricky Ponting, Brendon McCullum, Glen Maxwell and others took time out of the busy Indian Premier League schedule to come out to play a relaxed round of golf at Golfshire.

The IGU Southern India Amateur Championship took place in April, and Varun Parikh of Ahmedabad was crowned champion with a four day score of 273, 15 Under.

The agronomy team was delighted to see some rainfall in April and May! These rains are great as it gets all the playing surfaces back to level par, and gives our irrigation team a breather for a few days.

We also marked a milestone as the last of our lakes (behind #4 green) were repaired. This was a long road but we eventually got all of them completed and a big thanks to all the team for getting the job done. The bunker irrigation project also continued throughout the month with bunkers completed on holes 3, 5 and 8. Other work included bunker sand depth checks to identify where additional sand is required, Pennisetum grass trimming, desert edging and cart path pitching repairs. During this month we will be focusing on presenting the course in top condition for the second leg of the Masters series which we are all really looking forward to.

The agronomy team would like to extend our thanks for your ongoing support and hope you continue to enjoy the course.

Get Fit for Golf

Our Fitness Instructor Kumbharaj Thapa recommends that you work on the core muscles with a TRX Band. A strong core is essential to maximize club head speed resulting in longer drives off the tee box. A great way would be to include these in your pre and post game work outs. TRX Bands are available online or similar bands are available at Decathlon outlets.

If you have any questions related to golf fitness please send our Fitness Trainer, Kumbharaj, an email at [email protected] and he will be happy to answer.
