The Golfshire Times - July 2018

June was an action packed month for golf on the world stage as well as locally. With the monsoons arriving in Bangalore, the weather has been nothing short of spectacular and golfers could be seen in hordes on the golf course. The US Open returned to Shinnecock Hills, New York this year and it was defending champion Brooks Koepka who came out on top again. The brutal rough and slick greens ensured that the majority of the field was over par. Tiger Woods had a forgettable tournament missing the cut line by a mile. Indian Shubhankar Sharma too missed the cut in his maiden US Open start.

Closer home the Prestige Masters Series was back with the second leg sponsored by Penna Cement and Group Aryan. Sanjai Singh was crowned June Champion while American Matt Ryan was a close second on a day when golfers endured heavy winds and rain. The 3rd leg will return to Golfshire on Saturday 14th July. What's cooking in July 2018

The Falcon Greens Restaurant will be rolling out some new menu items in July. Come in and share some of your favourites with your friends or family. Mexican Tacos, BBQ Chicken Sliders and Dim Sum are just some of the many new delights we will be introducing.

The agronomy team had a busy month on the course doing rough and fairway renovations. Roughs were garden scarified to remove thatch and organic matter; thatch build up reduces water penetration and can also lock up nutrients in the soil as well as providing an ideal environment for weeds and disease. The renovations encourage new plant growth and over time will produce a more consistent playing surface. Fairways were all hollow-cored during the month and we will have full recovery in the next seven days.

We also started extending some of our greens sizes over the last couple of weeks. It is normal over the years for the greens to shrink in size. To review the original size of the greens, we take the "as built maps" of the greens and then plot these areas. These areas are then scalped down to putting green height of cut over time and nurtured carefully to transition into the rest of the green. Executing this also gives us more pin placement options. We will be continuing this process on more greens throughout the year.

The agronomy team would like to extend our thanks for your ongoing support and hope you continue to enjoy the course.

Get Fit for Golf

Most golfers are obsessed with distance and the modern game is all about Power Golf! Push-Ups are overall a great exercise for golfers wanting to hit the ball further with explosive energy. In this picture our gym instructor Kumbharaj shows us a slight variation using a TRX Band. With the legs suspended the focus on the core increases substantially and this makes for a great pre-round work out.

If you have any questions related to golf fitness please send our Fitness Trainer, Kumbharaj, an email at [email protected] and he will be happy to answer.
