The Golfshire Times - August 2018

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT GOLFSHIRE?

As we enter the second half of the year the club is getting ready to host the Louis Philippe Cup from 31st July for a week. This would be only the second time that Golfshire would be hosting a professional golf tournament since 2012 and there is much excitement amongst the organizers and players. The tournament will attract top stars from the PGTI as well as notable names from the ADT Tour, which is the first tier for the Asian Tour. Over the years the ADT has been a nursery for budding talent from across Asia. The course is in sublime condition thanks to the efforts of our superintendent, Coman Mulry and his team.

The fourth leg of The Prestige Masters Series, sponsored by Fujitech and Kohler, is scheduled for the 11th of August. With only three more qualifying legs remaining the competition is heating up and slots are limited: we have received 85 already. Do register as soon as possible at our Events Portal if you'd like to compete.

In non-golfing news, the club hosted the annual Members versus Management cricket match. The focus was to have a fun filled day and that is what exactly happened! The Management team won by a whopping margin of 100 runs.

COURSE CONDITIONS

During this month the agronomy team was busy doing a lot detailing work on the course in preparation for the PGTI/ADT event. We put together a concerted effort on all the native areas, cleaning them out and trimming all pennissetum grasses.

We have also continued our initiative to improve bunker consistency by monitoring sand depths regularly and adding sand where necessary. In the months ahead we will be focused on controlling weed activity in roughs through our herbicide programs; our main challenge is the grassy weeds. This year, we have expanded our herbicide programs due to the availability now of specialty herbicides in India and are confident improvements will be seen across the golf course.

HEALTH AND FITNESS

Get Fit for Golf

Doing pull-ups regularly will strengthen the large muscles of the back, such as the Latissmus Dorsi. This will translate into a greater amount of force when striking the golf ball. Strong and flexible muscles in the back will give you a greater chance of staying on plane throughout your downswing.

If you have any questions related to golf fitness please send our Fitness Trainer, Kumbharaj, an email at [email protected] and he will be happy to answer.
